On Wednesday April 20th, Sony's playstation network was hacked. Earlier through the month it had been hacked before but not like this. The Network has been down for the past four days and the general public has been in and angry and confused uproar. Many stated they would sell their ps3's and buy an xbox because they didn't want to wait, while others stayed faithfull and patiently wait until the systems back up.
The issue with sony first occured when George Hotz went and hacked Sony and found a jailbreak code that could allow a person to get free games (much like the Wiis homebrew channel) Sony discovered this and found their jailbreak codes online for easy access for the public to hack their own playstation. Unfortunately for him Sony did not find this in their favor and filled a lawsuit againt him.
A group of Hotz friend's created an anti-Sony group stating the charges agains George were unfair. 'Anonymous' was the reason for the few other attacks on Sony this month, except for recently. Though they didn't hack this time, they take credit for the unfortunate events that are happening with the Playstation site and network. The 'true' reason why playstation hacked was traced down in Japan where Socom resides. It was because of the launch of a few new games, and supposedly the server crashed because of updating the online features. This informamtion has just recently come out and I can't really give you more since what is being told now could be rumors.
thanks! And yeah, really. I mean I could care less if they obtained my login info. I just play or chat. If they were gonna hack something it should benefit the people
Almost a week and it's still down. I read the PS Blog and apparently all PSN users info, address, names, etc have been obtained by the hackers. When PSN is back, i'm going to erase my PSN account, my email address and anything related to my email address. Also, Sony is still investigating if credit card info has been stolen. Good blog, by the way.
